Choosing a payment method

Speed, reversibility and limits: how to compare your options.

P2P · 4 min read

The payment method matters as much as the price. Three questions help you compare.

Is it mobile money?

In much of Africa the usual way to pay is a phone wallet like M-Pesa, MTN MoMo, Orange Money or Wave. Transfers arrive quickly and work without a bank account, but wallets have daily limits, and fake SMS alerts are a common scam. Always check the balance in your wallet itself.

How fast is it?

Instant systems like Pix, UPI and Faster Payments usually arrive in seconds. Standard bank transfers can take much longer, so choose a suitable payment window.

Can it be reversed?

Card payments and some wallets can be charged back weeks later, which is a serious risk for sellers. Many merchants won't accept them for this reason.

What are the limits?

Banks often apply daily caps and may question repeated transfers to strangers. Check your limits before opening an order, not after.
